Position: SICM Food Program Stockroom Control/Warehouse Coordinator
Background:  Come join the team that manages the SICM Food Program/Pantry; it is the major food pantry in Schenectady County.  SICM is a non-sectarian faith-based organization started in 1967. The SICM Food Program is an EFRO, Emergency Food Relief Organization.  The program is supported by both public and private sources, including the NYS Department of Health, and many individuals, congregations, civic groups, and businesses.  Over 150 volunteers regularly participate with staff in running the pantry.  In addition to providing temporary and emergency food, the SICM EFRO provides or hosts “wrap around services” to help guests link with community resources such as health insurance, SNAP (Food Stamps), employment, etc.

Reports to: SICM EFRO Associate Director
Requirements: Associate’s Degree or two years’ related experience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and computer skills. Valid NY State Driver’s License.  Previous warehouse or pantry experience a plus but not required.  Bi-lingual a plus but not required.  Able to work with supervision and also independently.
Average work week: 35 – 40 hours; usually 7:30 am to 3 pm M to F
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  1. In the Warehouse:
  2.  With other staff and volunteers, continue to organize warehouse and storage area to facilitate periodic inventory, rotation, and stocking.  Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.
  3. Review expiration dates and recalls of inventory and arrange or carry out appropriate disposal.
  4. Review and count stock items, and record all appropriate data; report all damage to the supervisor.
  5. Mark stock items using identification tags or other equipment.
  6. Manage and train the pantry staff and volunteers in inventory storage and rotation.  Take part in annual health and safety training.
  7. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas and keep compliance with health and safety regulations.
  8. Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.
  9. Maintain the weight donation system to measure the volume of donations received from individuals and organizations; compile and keep accurate records.
  10.  Facilities and equipment:
  11.  Develop and maintain a maintenance calendar for all buildings and vehicles; arrange or carry out needed maintenance with a focus on preventive maintenance.
  12. Keep records on buildings, vehicles and equipment for review by funding sources, indicating any damages and make recommendations for repair or replacement. 
  13.  Pickups and deliveries:    as needed; schedule, oversee and participate in pickup, unloading and stocking from vendors and donors.
  14. Interface with vendors and donors and develop and maintain positive relationships. 
  15. Collaborate with other staff regarding inventory and food ordering to maintain adequate food supply.
  16. As needed, serve as a backup for the EFRO Volunteer Coordinator.
  17. As needed, assist in overseeing the waiting area, maintaining a safe and orderly environment. 
  18. Maintain familiarity with all aspects of EFRO operation and assist in all the pantry areas when necessary.
  1.  Attend EFRO and SICM meetings as required.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

The job includes (1) Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things; (2) Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.  Must be able to lift/move boxes up to 50 pounds.
