Food Pantry

SICM Mission: Relating the resources of the congregations to the needs of the community.
Program Vision: Everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food

Community Garden

* Residents have access to a local community garden.

* 18 residents participate in the garden.

* Purpose is to help residents have fresh, healthy food.

* Community and faith-based organizations/congregations and indi-viduals may volunteer to assist gardeners.
Food Pantry

* Bags of groceries available to households in Schenectady County.

* Open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; contact pantry for eligibility requirements.

* Van rides are available to guests needing ride home after visiting pantry.

* Mass distribution of bags of groceries is held on the last Thursday of each month.

* Community, faith-based organizations/congregations, and individuals may volunteer
Support Services

* On-site help with Food Stamp/SNAP applications.

* Information on health insurance, employment resources are available at Pantry.

* Nutrition education and food demonstrations are available.

* Sit & Knit Program. Guests and volunteers knit together; program intro-duces guests to the pantry.

* Senior Connect Pro-gram. Introduces sen-iors to the pantry and provides activities that encourage healthy food and lifestyles.

Impact & Results—2016

* 2016: 47,500 children, adults and seniors received groceries (equivalent of 430,000 meals)

* 3,500 households received bulk groceries.
